Education
Prevention begins with understanding. Through outreach and education, we empower youth, caregivers, and community members to recognize abuse, respond appropriately, and take action to protect others.
The Education Department is dedicated to proactively promoting child safety through comprehensive, evidence-based programs designed for all ages and community groups.
Education Programs Include:
Child Abuse Prevention Presentations: Our Being Safe program is offered free of charge to schools, daycare facilities, and faith-based organizations. Children from Pre-K through 6th grade learn about body safety, i.e. what a safe touch, unsafe touch (physical abuse), and confusing touch (sexual abuse) is, at age-appropriate levels. Students in 7th and 8th grade explore online safety and healthy relationships, while high school students receive education on healthy relationships, online safety, and human trafficking. These presentations comply fully with Jenna’s Law. Informational Zoom trainings are held for caregivers wanting more information on presentations being offered in their child’s school, and parents are able to view the curriculum upon request.
Online Safety: We provide an online safety course specifically for parents to help them understand the dangers of the internet and how to keep their children safe. Online safety is also taught to students beginning in elementary school and can be customized to fit the needs of any organization.
Healthy Relationships: This course highlights the 10 signs of a healthy and unhealthy relationship, how to recognize red flags, and strategies for safely leaving an unhealthy relationship. We recommend this training for middle school students through adults.
Human Trafficking: Our suite of trainings, including Human Trafficking 101, Love Shouldn’t Hurt, and Behind the Screen, illuminate the realities and various forms of human trafficking. These programs focus on prevention, safety, and available resources to protect children and families.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Offered free to parents, educators, daycare workers, medical professionals, and faith-based organizations, this training covers different types of abuse, how to respond to suspected abuse, the reporting process, and strategies for protecting children. Sessions are available via Zoom or in person, with course completion certificates provided upon request.
