Therapy
Therapy
Healing is possible, and no one has to do it alone. Our therapy services offer a safe space to process, rebuild, and grow.
We Are Here to Help
Part of our mission at MRCCAC is to support survivors in their healing journey and promote hope. We offer free therapy services to survivors of abuse and assault throughout the entirety of their trauma treatment. This includes case management, therapy intervention, and collaboration with supportive family members.
Our trauma therapists meet children and non-offending caregivers where they are—offering guidance, emotional support, and a path forward. Therapy is offered in both individual and group settings to help children and families process their experiences, build coping skills, and work toward healing.

Types of Therapy
Our therapists are trained in a variety of treatment modalities to suit each client’s unique needs.
Disclaimer: Not all forms of therapy are suitable for every individual. Each person's needs, experiences, and goals are unique. Following a thorough assessment, the client and counselor will work together to determine the most appropriate and effective therapeutic approach. This collaborative process ensures that treatment is tailored to support the client's well-being and personal growth.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers overcome the impact of traumatic experiences. It combines cognitive-behavioral principles with trauma-sensitive interventions to address emotional and behavioral difficulties related to trauma. TF-CBT is typically short-term and has been proven effective for PTSD, depression, and anxiety related to trauma.
Key components include:
· Psychoeducation about trauma and its effects
· Relaxation and coping skills development
· Cognitive processing to challenge unhelpful thoughts
· Trauma narrative creation to help process traumatic memories
· Parental involvement to support the child and improve family communication
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy used to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. It involves the client recalling distressing memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, taps, or sounds. This process is thought to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and enabling more adaptive thinking. EMDR is especially effective for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and can also be used for anxiety, phobias, and other emotional difficulties related to trauma. It typically follows an eight-phase approach and does not require detailed discussion of the trauma.
Parent Child Care Therapy (PC-CARE)
Parent Child Care Therapy (PC-CARE) is a 7-session dyadic, evidence-based, treatment program for families that are interested in improving caregiver-child relationships and are willing to learn new child behavior management strategies. This program is for children between the ages of 1 and 10 years who may have experienced a traumatic event, may be adjusting to a new home, and/or may be disruptive and defiant. A wide range of caregivers can participate, including biological parents, foster and kin caregivers, and adoptive caregivers.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help people with emotional regulation difficulties. It is a structured and intensive therapy that typically involves individual therapy sessions, group skills training, and phone coaching. It aims to help individuals develop coping mechanisms, reduce self-harm, and improve their overall quality of life.
DBT focuses on teaching individuals four core skills:
· Mindfulness: Paying attention to the present moment without judgment.
· Distress tolerance: Coping with intense emotions in healthy ways.
· Emotional regulation: Identifying, understanding, and managing emotions effectively.
· Interpersonal effectiveness: Improving relationships and asserting their needs.
Play Therapy
Play therapy is a therapeutic approach primarily used with children, helping them understand emotions and express themselves through play activities. It is designed for children age 3-11 who may have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. There are two main types of play therapy: directive, where therapists guide activities and non-directive, where children play freely. This method allows children to communicate their feelings and experiences in a natural and comfortable way, using toys and play as their medium of expression.
Sand Tray Therapy
Sand Tray Therapy is a therapeutic technique often used with children, but also effective for adolescents and adults. It involves clients creating scenes in a tray filled with sand using miniature figures, objects, and symbols. This nonverbal, expressive approach allows individuals to externalize thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to express with words. The therapist observes and, when appropriate, discusses the scenes to help the client gain insight, process trauma, and promote healing. Sand Tray Therapy is especially helpful for addressing trauma, grief, and emotional regulation challenges.
The Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method℠
The Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method℠ is a healing modality that integrates trauma-informed yoga and somatic psychotherapy practices.
Group Therapy
We also offer therapy groups throughout the year to support trauma processing, skills building, relationship enhancement, and preventative planning. These sessions provide a space for survivors to heal in community and strengthen tools for emotional regulation and resilience.
You Are Not Alone
We know that healing takes time, care, and the right support. At MRCCAC, our therapy team is committed to walking alongside every survivor and family with empathy, clinical expertise, and respect for each individual’s path forward.
