When families are empowered, children can thrive. Our goal is to strengthen the support system around every child who comes into the center through shared resources, trusted partnerships, and care that honors each family’s unique path to healing.

Family Advocacy

Family Advocacy

At the Midland Rape Crisis and Children’s Advocacy Center, we know that when a child experiences abuse, the impact ripples through the entire family. Non-offending caregivers are often left feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, and in need of support themselves. That’s where our Family Advocates come in.

From the very first time a family steps through our doors, our advocates are here to walk alongside caregivers. We offer crisis intervention services, trauma-informed support, and empowerment as well as access to essential resources throughout the entire process of investigation, during legal proceedings, and through the healing process.

What Family Advocates Do

During a child’s forensic interview, our family advocates meet with caregivers to:

  • Explain what to expect during the interview and beyond

  • Answer questions about the investigative and legal process

  • Provide emotional support and help families begin to process what’s happening

  • Connect caregivers with services that promote long-term stability and healing

Family advocacy doesn’t end after the initial visit. We remain a trusted point of contact throughout a family’s journey, checking in, following up, and making sure no one feels alone as they navigate these difficult circumstances.

Long-Term Advocacy & Resource Navigation

Our advocates also assist families in accessing long-term support through:

  • Case management

  • Referrals to community resources, including mental health care, food and financial support

  • Ongoing follow-ups to ensure families stay connected to services as needs evolve

No two families are the same, which is why our support is always personalized and trauma-informed. Whether a caregiver needs a listening ear, help filling out paperwork, or a connection to counseling, our advocates are here to help every step of the way.
